Questions about knee procedures
- What is the best injection for knee arthritis?
- There is no single best choice. Cortisone calms flares quickly, hyaluronic acid can last longer for some people, and orthobiologics such as PRP may ease pain and improve function. They do not regrow cartilage, and your physician matches the option to your X-rays, ultrasound, and goals.
- Can you inject cortisone for patellar tendon pain?
- We do not inject cortisone into the patellar tendon because it can weaken a tendon that carries heavy loads. Loading programs, shockwave, PRP, and percutaneous tenotomy (Tenex) are the options we use instead.
- Why is my knee swollen, and can the fluid be removed?
- Swelling usually comes from arthritis, an injury, or inflammation. Under ultrasound our physicians can draw off the fluid to relieve pressure and test it, then treat the cause.
